About Grand Forks Snow

Grand Forks keeps a long ribbon of parkland running along its rivers, and in winter the Greenway turns into something almost the opposite of a plowed street — trails groomed for skis instead of tires, English Coulee locked under ice instead of running past campus. Grand Forks Snow works the ordinary blocks just outside that quiet parkland, streets where people still need a clear driveway to get anywhere in January regardless of how pretty the trails look. There's a nice contrast in a single neighborhood holding both kinds of winter at once, a groomed ski trail on one side of the block and a freshly plowed driveway on the other. The crew moves house to house in the early hours, working streets that back right up to a park most of them will never actually ski. Both kinds of clearing, in their own way, are how this town gets through the season, one quietly recreational and one just plainly necessary.
