Strata Corporation works past the edges of Grafton's residential streets, out where the county road straightens into open farmland and a seed-cleaning plant and a row of loading docks mark the edge of town long before you actually reach them. Winter here doesn't stay in town — it drifts across open fields and piles against the first obstacle it meets, which is often a commercial lot or a loading dock at the edge of town. The crews plow those larger stretches of pavement in wide, deliberate passes, clearing space for the grain trucks and delivery rigs that keep moving through Walsh County no matter the forecast. It's a different scale of winter work than a single driveway, built for the flat, wind-scoured stretch between Grafton and the next town down the road.
