About Umstead Outdoors

On a clear October day you can pick out the Sauratown ridge from the high ground north of town, Pilot Mountain sitting on the horizon like a thumbprint pressed into the sky. Umstead Outdoors keeps its attention lower down: mowing, trimming, edging, fall cleanups, leaf removal, and hauling off whatever the wind has stacked against the fence. The air goes dry, the light goes long, and a yard cleared of leaves in that light looks almost lit from underneath. Work runs from the first warm week straight through the last of the oak leaves letting go. Around Winston that turns out to be most of the year, and the yards show it.
