About Vandemark Farms.1000 acres sod

Whitakers sits astride a county line and a railroad on the flat coastal plain, where the fields run out to a horizon that is mostly sky. Vandemark Farms works lawns in that open country, mowing, trimming and edging on ground where nothing blocks the wind or the light. Grass grows hard through the humid stretch from May to September, then eases into the mild, tawny fall that eastern North Carolina does so well. Out here a mown lawn reads from the road at a quarter mile, so the lines have to be true. A freight going through town at dusk and a yard just finished make a good end to a working day.
