About Jay's Lawn & Landscape Co

Wendell wakes early, the way farm towns keep doing long after the fields have turned into neighborhoods. Jay's Lawn & Landscape starts mowing while the dew is still down, working the flat, generous eastern Wake ground where old tobacco land now grows fescue and bermuda instead. July here is heat, humidity and grass that puts on an inch overnight, so the week gets planned around what the weekend will do to it. Edging along a walk is what gives a yard its posture — that thin dark line between grass and concrete does more than any ornament. By the time the afternoon turns mean, the trailer is loaded and the street looks tended.
