Green comes late at three thousand feet and leaves early, which makes a Watauga County summer feel like something borrowed. Everett Exterior spends it outdoors from the first real growth in May to the last cut in October — mowing lawns that come on fast in the cool damp, edging the drive, trimming around rock walls and porch posts and the rhododendron that crowds everything up here. Mornings often begin inside a cloud and end with the ridges showing clean, and a yard cut on that kind of day holds its lines for a week. Autumn arrives with maple and birch leaves down, and those are cleared before the first hard freeze pins them in place. Boone, Blowing Rock, Vilas and the roads in between.
