For about two weeks every April, Wake Forest turns yellow — loblolly pollen on the cars, the mailboxes, the porch rails, drifting in the gutters like cornmeal. Crownover Green works right through it, because that is also when the grass finally means it and the mowing season opens for real. Those first cuts set the tone for the year: deck height right, blades sharp, clippings blown clear so nothing smothers the new growth. Fertilizer and weed control go down while the ground is warming and the crabgrass hasn't made up its mind yet. By the time the pollen washes off in the first good rain, the lawns on the route are already ahead.
