About Hedden Lawn Co.

By the middle of October the slopes above Valleytown turn over all at once — poplar yellow, maple red, the hemlocks holding dark green underneath. Hedden Lawn Co. spends those weeks staying ahead of what comes down, because a mountain yard can go from mown to buried in one windy night. The mowers keep running as long as the grass asks for it, and the leaves get cleared off the turf and away from the walks. There is a particular pleasure in the last cut of the fall, when the stripes lie flat and the yard goes into the cold looking tended. Valleytown wears the season well, and a clean lawn underneath it doesn't hurt.
