Todd's Lawn Care

About Todd's Lawn Care

By mid-October the color has come down off Mount Mitchell into the coves, and every yard in South Toe lies under a week's worth of poplar and maple. Todd's Lawn Care spends that stretch on leaves — blowing them out from under shrubs and off the walkways, gathering, hauling, then taking the grass down one last time before frost puts it to sleep. Earlier in the year the work is steady and simple: weekly mowing, string trimming, edging along gravel and stone. The autumn reward is stark, a yard buried at nine in the morning swept back to open green by afternoon and ready for the cold. There are not many better places to finish a working day than a Yancey County holler with the light going gold on the ridges.
