Out on the South Point peninsula the morning comes off Lake Wylie in a low white drift, and the coves hold it until the sun is well up. A.V.E. Landscaping starts the mowers in that hour, when the bermuda is still beaded with dew and the water lies flat as poured glass. Mowing, trimming and edging make up the day, along with the blowing that leaves a walk clean enough to read the seams in the concrete. By noon the fog is gone, the yards are striped, and the glare off the lake is the only thing still moving. It is plain work, done on a piece of ground with rivers on both sides of it.
