About Ridenhour Dirt Works

Winter arrives in this part of the Piedmont on a change of wind: rain at supper, a hard quiet after dark, then a glaze over the red clay by morning. Ridenhour Dirt Works works those nights, plowing and salting so a driveway that shone like glass at midnight is bare pavement by the time the coffee is poured. The work is straightforward and physical — opening drives, clearing walkways, treating the slick spots where a slope keeps its shade all day. A clean line of asphalt with the storm still sitting white on the trees is a good thing to stand back and look at. When the drive is passable, a whole day gets to happen.
