About Juan's lawn care

By noon in August the cicadas are running loud over Rockingham and the heat stands still in every yard between the pines. Juan's lawn care works straight through it — mowing, cutting weeds back out of the fence line, edging the walk, trimming the hedges square, then clearing what the work knocked loose. Water in the shade of an oak, then back at it, because grass in a Sandhills summer does not wait on anybody's comfort. The evening light lands on a yard that was shaggy at breakfast and is not anymore. That change, made by hand and made to last the week, is the reason for the day.
