About Carolina Family Outdoor

In the Pine Swamp country of Ashe County, a north-facing hollow will hold snow a full week after the sunny slope has given it up. Carolina Family Outdoor works those shaded lanes from the first hard freeze of November onward, plowing from the road down to the barn and opening a turnaround big enough to be useful. Steps and the path to the door are shoveled, and ice control goes where the grade tips toward the creek. Near the North Fork of the New River the cold settles in and stays, so the job is less one storm than a whole season kept passable. A drive that stays open all winter is the result worth having.
