Brock's Lawn Care

About Brock's Lawn Care

August in Johnston County smells like cured tobacco and hot asphalt, and the freight goes through Pine Level without slowing down. Brock's Lawn Care runs the town and the farm roads out from it, mowing lawns that grow hard in that flat coastal-plain heat, edging drives, trimming around mailboxes, porch steps and fence corners. Beds are mulched, hedges kept level, leaves and limbs cleared when the season brings them down. Bermuda and centipede want cutting often and cutting low, and one week missed in high summer is two weeks of catching up. Come evening, when the heat finally lets go and the fields go quiet, a lawn mowed clean along a straight Pine Level street is a plain good thing to drive past.
