About E. Christian & Son, Inc.

Snow does not come to Oxford often, and when it does the town changes register — brick storefronts standing quiet, a white seam on every limb of the old street oaks, the hills out toward Kerr Lake gone the color of paper. E. Christian & Son, Inc. handles the clearing: plowing lots and driveways, opening sidewalks and entrances, treating the ice that holds on where the sun never quite reaches in January. Piedmont snow comes heavy and leaves quickly, which makes timing the whole game — get down to clean asphalt before the afternoon melt has a chance to refreeze, and the second night takes care of itself. Walking a lot at dawn and finding it open and dry, where an overnight's worth of white had been, is the part worth getting up for. By the time the courthouse block fills, nobody can tell how early the day started.
