About Hammond and Sons Lawncare & Landscaping

Seven in the morning, a tailgate drops somewhere out in White Plains, and the day's route begins. Hammond and Sons Lawncare & Landscaping runs Mount Airy and the roads leading out of it: mow, edge, trim, clear, load, drive, repeat, with the kind of order that only comes from working a route the same way each week. Landscape beds get weeded and mulched, shrubs get cut back off the windows, leaves get moved in the fall before they smother the fescue. The pleasure is in the sequence, a lawn that was rough at 7:40 and finished by 8:05, and the next one waiting down the road. By evening a whole side of town is trimmed and quiet.
