About Burke Outdoor

There is a morning every April when Morganton wakes all at once — the Catawba running high and loud, Table Rock holding a little haze off to the north, and every lawn in Burke County deciding to grow on the same day. Burke Outdoor meets that season with a deck set right and a trimmer line that does not quit: grass brought to an even height, borders cut along walks and beds, windfall and clippings cleared before the truck pulls out. The foothills make for yards that roll and step and tuck in behind rock walls, and ground like that rewards patience more than speed. Come autumn the same lawns go gold and turn everything loose, and the leaves are raked up and removed before the turf goes under. It is plain work, and it shows from the road.
