The first cut of the year around Monroe comes sometime in March, when the henbit and wild onion have already had their say and the Bermuda is only thinking about it. Ram in the bush takes those yards on — knocking down winter's growth, edging the drives back to their true lines, trimming out fence corners and hedgerow bottoms the mower cannot reach. The March wind still carries an edge some days, and the work goes better for it. After that first pass a yard looks like it has been let out of something. From there it settles into a steady rhythm of cuts until the grass finally quits in November.
