Green Acres

About Green Acres

Yards run big in this part of the county — a house set well back off the road, then grass, then a ditch bank, then somebody's soybeans going on to the horizon. Green Acres takes the wide ones, mowing the open stretches and keeping the ditch banks and property edges from closing in. Late in the day the light comes across all that flat ground the color of honey, an osprey works its way home, and the last few passes get made in it. Big grass rewards patience: keep the line honest, overlap a little, carry the clippings off the drive when you're done. It is unhurried work, and Long Acre gives you the room for it.
