Pelletier Lawn

About Pelletier Lawn

Out toward Swansboro the wind comes up off the White Oak River in the afternoon carrying a little salt with it, and October is when this whole stretch of coast turns comfortable again. Pelletier Lawn spends those weeks on Jacksonville and Onslow County yards — mowing while there is growth left in the grass, trimming, edging the drives, and clearing leaves and clippings so the lawn goes into the cool months clean. Grass takes on a hardness in the fall here, slower and tougher, and a cut at the right height carries it through dormancy. Nearer Hubert the lots back onto pine and creek, and the seam where a mowed lawn meets that wild edge is worth getting exactly right. It is a small kind of order held steady against a very big landscape.
