ALL ABOUT TREES

About ALL ABOUT TREES

Before the light finds Lake Chatuge, the cold has already settled into the coves around Hayesville and the shoreline drives have taken on a thin white skin. ALL ABOUT TREES works those hours — plowing, shoveling the walks, laying salt on the pitch where a slope wants to send you sideways. Clay County snow arrives soft and leaves in a hurry, but the hours it lasts are the hours the roads matter most. There is a plain pleasure in the finished pass: black pavement, a squared shoulder, and a car that pulls out without a second thought. By the time the sun climbs over the water and the mist lifts off the lake, the morning's work is already behind them.
