The first cut of the year comes early in eastern North Carolina — some March morning when the sandy loam has dried enough to hold a wheel and the grass has begun to stir. Lineberry Lawn Care starts there and keeps going until the leaves are down: mowing on rotation, edging, trimming, seeding and aerating the thin spots, and clearing whatever the wind leaves behind. Greene County yards run wide and open, so a stray patch or a soft edge shows plainly from the road. Getting that first cut right sets the tone for the eight months of cuts after it. From then on it's simply a matter of keeping the same appointment every week.
