Ride southeast out of Gastonia toward Belmont and the land eases downhill toward water, with a breeze coming off the Catawba that late August is always grateful for. Morrison Lawn and Landscape follows that direction across Gaston County, mowing and edging, trimming, laying mulch, shaping shrubs and keeping weeds out of the beds where the warm-season grasses run hardest. Bermuda and zoysia love this climate and will creep anywhere they are allowed, so a defined edge is not decoration — it is what keeps a bed a bed. The pleasure in the work is structural: a lawn that lies flat and even, plantings held to their outlines, the whole property looking composed instead of merely cut. Heat and humidity make it demanding from May to September, and the route holds anyway. Fall comes gently here, and by then the yards are set up to take it.
