HammerScapes

About HammerScapes

In eastern Bladen County, Frenches Creek lies low along the Cape Fear River, where the side creeks run dark with tannin and cypress knees rise from the shallows like a quiet congregation. HammerScapes brings shape to the yards of this lowland river country. The name suggests the approach, solid and deliberate and made to hold its shape, and the work follows suit, turning sandy lots into yards with real definition. On a still summer morning, before the heat thickens and the mist burns off the water, a newly mowed yard here smells of cut grass and pine and looks squared away. Out where the roads run long and neighbors live far apart, that kind of tidy ground says someone is home and paying attention.
