About Stan The Lawnman

Saturday morning in Elkin sounds like mowers, one after another, from the neighborhoods above town on down toward the bridge to Jonesville. Stan The Lawnman is in that chorus early — cutting, string-trimming the fence corners, edging the concrete until the line is sharp, blowing the drive until there is not a clipping left on it. He likes stripes, the kind that run one way going out and the other coming back, and he likes them straight. Grass in this part of North Carolina grows fast through May and stubborn through August; either way the schedule holds. A yard that looks handled every single week is not a small thing to hand somebody.
