Out toward Research Triangle Park the lots are wide and the wind has room to run, so snow lands thin and then blows into long ridges against the curbs. Rock Grading takes those on at night, running plows across open asphalt while the buildings are dark, stacking the piles where they will not block a sight line or flood a drain when they finally go. Closer to Falls Lake the drives are longer and quieter and the same care applies: down to the pavement, salt at the slope, a second pass once the wind shifts. Morning arrives and nobody has to give the parking lot a thought. Some work is best measured by what never becomes a problem.
