About J. Andrews Landscaping

At noon in August the light over Davidson goes flat and white and nothing moves but the work. J. Andrews Landscaping is out in it, mowing, shearing hedges level, cutting the driveway edge to a clean shoulder, and clearing every last clipping off the concrete. A finished yard has a geometry to it, the hedge square, the bed line curving the way it was drawn, the passes parallel, and it reads that way even from a car going by. Fall turns the job toward leaves and cutbacks; late winter is for pruning and getting beds ready for what comes next. The pleasure is in the precision, and holding it all the way through the hot months is the achievement.
