Winter reaches the north slopes above Cowee first and lets go of them last — gravel switchbacks under Cowee Bald that stay white for days after the valley floor has dried out. Erik's Grading & Septic clears those drives: plowing, cutting a path down to bare surface, shoveling the steps and walks, and salting the shaded bends where the melt refreezes by dark. A steep mountain driveway is a different animal from a flat one, and a good clearing accounts for where the water is going to run. The measure of it is simple: on the morning after, the household gets down to the road. When the thaw comes, the mountain drips for a week and the roads go back to being roads.
