Carthage sits up on its ridge with the courthouse at the center of the circle and the longleaf running out in every direction. Heffner Landscaping works those Sandhills yards where the soil is sand and the pine straw falls all year: mowing on a steady turn, edging where the drives meet the grass, trimming fence lines back to square. In spring the whole county goes gold-green and the mower runs most days; by November it is rakes and blowers and a truckload of leaves headed out. Mulch fresh in the beds, a crisp edge along the walk, a lawn cut in even passes — the small geometry that makes an old town street look cared for. The work is ordinary and the result is not.
