Bogue Sound lies just past the marsh grass here, and the wind that crosses it carries salt into every yard between the water and Highway 24. Coastal lawns grow tough and sandy-rooted, and they take a cut differently than inland grass does — lower, tighter and more often through the long warm season. The work is mowing, trimming and clearing, finished with the walks blown clean so the sand stays underfoot instead of on the concrete. Late in the day, when the light goes flat over the sound and the marsh turns copper, a freshly cut yard along these roads looks about right. Service runs through Bogue, Cape Carteret, Swansboro and the Emerald Isle side of the bridge.
