The storms that reach West Yellowstone often arrive at night, and by morning the gateway road into the park can be buried under snow blowing sideways off the high country. Tri State Excavating runs heavier equipment through those nights, clearing lots and long driveways where a shovel wouldn't make a dent before the next system arrives. The Madison River freezes at its edges but keeps moving through the middle of town, a dark ribbon against all that white, and the crew's headlights are often the only light on the road before sunrise. This is a place built around winter travel, and keeping a lot or a lane open here means keeping the town's real business moving. By the time the first snowmobiles head out for the day, the ground they're leaving from has already been cleared.
