Before first light reaches the Bitterroot Range's east face, the valley around Victor is still blue with cold, frost heavy on the old orchard rows that once shipped apples out by rail. Bitterroot Lawn and Landscape works the driveways and lanes of this valley floor, pushing fresh snow off gravel and concrete before the morning commute finds it packed and icy. The Bitterroot River runs low and dark through the cottonwoods here in winter, and the same crews who tend these yards in summer are back out again in January, clearing a clean path to the door. There's a particular satisfaction in a driveway scraped to bare gravel while the rest of the valley is still buried — proof that someone got here first. By the time the sun tops the ridge and lights the snowfields above town, the work is already done.
