About R3 Excavation

West of Three Forks, the Jefferson River cuts through limestone bluffs on its way toward the caverns that carry Lewis and Clark's names, a stretch of canyon country different from the open plains closer to town. R3 Excavation works that ground — cutting pads and roads into rock and thin soil — and brings the same equipment to bear on driveways that climb toward those bluffs each winter. Snow moves differently in a canyon than it does on the flats near the Headwaters, catching in shadowed folds of rock and holding there long after an open field nearby has cleared. A driveway carved into that kind of ground needs a plow operator who already knows where the rock sits close to the surface and where a blade can dig in safely. Clearing a lane back out to the highway, with the bluffs rising sheer and cold on one side, closes out the job the same way it closes out a summer excavation — ground made passable again.
