Fog collects low over the Bitterroot River most winter mornings, drifting across the fields on the west side of Stevensville before the light burns it off. Allwest Paving and Excavation runs its plow blades out into that fog, clearing driveways and lots while the river bottom is still gray and still. The same equipment that shapes a gravel pad in July pushes snow in December — big iron, wide blades, built for moving a lot of ground at once. Out here where the valley floor stretches toward the Sapphire foothills, storms can dump a foot overnight and the wind piles it into drifts across open lots. The crew works those lots down to bare asphalt or packed gravel, corner to corner, so the morning traffic has somewhere clean to land.
