About South Fork Excavation

South Fork sits back in the timber past Hungry Horse Reservoir, far enough into the Flathead National Forest that a plow route here runs more miles of dark lodgepole than open ground. South Fork Excavation clears the driveways and forest access roads serving the handful of homes and outfitter camps scattered through that country, working through snowpack that builds deep and stays soft under the trees long after open valleys have crusted over. The reservoir itself locks up along its shallow arms by midwinter, ice reaching out from the bank while the main channel stays open and dark, a rough gauge of just how cold the last stretch has been. Getting to a driveway out here can mean clearing several miles of shared forest road first, since nothing at the end of it gets touched until the road leading in is passable. It's slow, remote work, built around the reality that the nearest help, if a plow gets stuck, might be an hour away rather than a phone call.
