Red Lodge wakes late in January, held in the shadow of the Beartooths until the sun finally clears the ridge above town. Baldwin's Customized Landscaping is already out before that light arrives, working driveways off Broadway and along the West Fork of Rock Creek while the brick storefronts downtown still sit dark. A plow blade against packed snow, a shovel scraping a walk down to concrete — the work is done so the rest of Red Lodge can start its day on schedule. By the time the sun tips over the mountain wall, the runs are clear, the walks are down to bare ground, and the town looks ready for whatever the Beartooth country sends down next.
