Pattee Canyon holds a stand of old ponderosa pine that shades the road long after the rest of Missoula has lost its snow to the sun, and Seven Pines Enterprises works the driveways tucked back among those trees all winter. The pines keep the ground shaded and the snow packed hard well into spring, so driveways up there get plowed more than once a week just to stay open, and walkways get shoveled and sanded before the needles underneath turn the footing slick. Snow that piles too high along the tree lines gets hauled clear so it doesn't crowd the driveway's edge. Those old pines hold onto winter longer than the open valley ever does, and the driveways beneath them keep pace with that.
