South of Missoula the valley narrows toward Lolo, and Lolo Peak holds snow in its high folds into June, long after the lawns below have wanted their third cut. Jordan Lawn and Landscape works that stretch of the Bitterroot corridor: weekly mowing, trimming and edging, fertilizing, seeding the bare strips that show up along fence lines and driveway aprons. The wind funnels down the valley most afternoons, so clippings get cleared off the concrete before they can scatter into the beds. Come autumn the river cottonwoods let go and the cleanup work runs right up until the ground goes hard. Good grass down here is grown a week at a time, not installed.
