West of the Clark Fork, Blue Mountain rises steep and dark with timber, and its lower slopes are where Blue Mountain Landscape and Sprinkler spends its winter mornings plowing driveways carved into the hillside. The grades up there hold ice longer than the valley floor, so the crew runs the same routes early and often, scraping down to gravel and salting the turns before a car ever has to find out the hard way. Parking areas get cleared wide, walkways get shoveled edge to edge, and snow gets hauled off when there's nowhere left to push it. By midmorning the mountain's shadow still hangs over half the neighborhood, but the driveways underneath it are bare.
