Late April on the bench east of Livingston, the meadowlarks get back on the fence wire before the grass is fully awake, and their whistle is the local starting gun. Meadowlark Landscaping takes the cue: rake out the winter mat, tidy the beds, set the first cut a touch high while the roots find their feet. Through the summer it is weekly mowing, trimming around posts and plantings, and edges kept clean where sod meets gravel and stone. New plantings go in when the ground is warm enough to be generous about it. By the time the wind swings cold off the Crazies again, everything has been cut back and cleared so spring has less to argue with. A yard out here should look like it belongs to the grassland, only combed.
