West of town the Clarks Fork comes in to meet the Yellowstone, and the benchland above that meeting is where many of Laurel's yards sit — sun, wind, and ground that needs help before it will hold a garden. River Ridge Landscape Company builds from that starting point: bed shaping and edging, plantings chosen for a river-valley summer and a hard Montana winter, rock and border work, and grading that sends spring runoff where it ought to go. The lawn side runs right beside it, with mowing, trimming and seasonal cleanups, because a landscape only reads well when the turf around it is cut clean. In April the cottonwood buds go sticky-sweet down in the bottoms and the whole season starts at once. What stays behind is a yard that fits its ground instead of arguing with it.
