Kalispell mornings in January start black and quiet, the Flathead River running slate-dark under a skin of frost long before the sun clears the Whitefish Range. Sandman Sanding & Snow Plowing is already out in it — plow blade down, sander humming — carving clean lines through driveways and lots while Main Street still sleeps. Ice here doesn't announce itself; it just skins over asphalt between one cold snap and the next Pacific front spilling across the Divide, and a scattered handful of sand under a tire can be the difference between a slide and a stop. By the time the valley fog burns off and headlights start stacking up on Highway 93, the pavement out front is bare down to the grit, edges square, nothing left to catch a heel. There's a particular satisfaction in a driveway you can't see your breath reflected off of anymore — just bare concrete, steam rising faintly where the sun finally reaches it. Kalispell runs on those early hours, and so does this outfit.
