The Mission Mountains rise straight off the valley floor above St. Ignatius, timbered dark green in summer and loaded white by November, and a heavy snow up in those timber stands can bend young pine over a driveway before anyone in the valley below even knows it fell. BearDance Forestry works the fringe where the trees meet the yards — clearing storm-dropped limbs and pushing snow off the same gravel drives that wind up toward the tree line. Down in the valley the mornings often start under a low fog bank that the mountains hold in place until midday, and that's the window for getting a driveway open before the next system stacks up against the peaks. The work follows the tree line more than the town grid, moving farmstead to farmstead along the base of the Missions. The mountains make their own weather here, and a cleared path still has to answer to them first.
