Fairfield's fields are laced with shelterbelts, rows of cottonwood and caragana planted to break the wind, and a heavy wet snow can lay a limb across a farm lane as fast as any drift can close it. Circle B Saw and Tree gets out early while the cold is still holding the snow in place, cutting a fallen branch clear and pushing the snow off that same stretch of driveway before morning chores start. The work runs along the benches toward the Teton River bottom, where a plowed lane has to thread between windbreak rows planted tight enough to catch every gust off the open ground. By the time the grain elevator's shadow swings around at midday, the lanes cleared that morning are the ones still open for the mail and the propane truck. That's the trade at this hour — the cold doing you a favor instead of a disservice, for as long as it lasts.
