The ground around Columbia Falls carries the marks of glaciers that carved this valley long before anyone built a town here, terraced river benches above the Flathead where the soil is glacial till, rocky and uneven under whatever's built on top of it. ColumbiaMtnExcavation works winter snow removal with that same ground knowledge, clearing driveways and lots where an uneven grade means drifts pile unevenly too, deep in one low spot and barely dusted a few yards away. The old aluminum plant along the river is a landmark from a different era of the town's history, and the neighborhoods that grew up around it still sit on that same terraced, glacially shaped land. Reading the grade before running a blade across it means fewer surprises when the snow melts and reveals what the plow missed or gouged. By the end of a storm, the lots and drives are open and the ground beneath them is exactly as it should be, no worse for the work.
