Hillside Brothers

About Hillside Brothers

Half of Butte is built on a grade, and the yards above town — Centerville, Dublin Gulch, the streets that stair-step up the hill — ask a mower to work sideways across a slope without ever tearing the turf. Hillside Brothers know that ground: cut across the pitch, keep the wheels steady, finish the steep corners on foot with a trimmer rather than fighting them. Edges get run along the walks and retaining walls, and the clippings get swept off the concrete so nothing slides down to the next house in the first rain. These lots are small and awkward and worth doing right, because a tidy yard on a hillside is visible from three streets away. Standing at the top when the job's finished, the cut looks even the whole way down.
