From up on Belt Butte, the whole town shows itself at once — brick storefronts along Main Street that go back to Belt's coal-mining days, Belt Creek threading through below, Highway 87 running out toward Great Falls — and somewhere down in that view, most winter mornings, Travis Johnson Enterprises is already working a route through it. Storms coming down off the Little Belt Mountains can dump snow fast and then just as fast let the wind take over, packing it hard against the old brick fronts downtown and across the driveways on the newer edges of town alike. Clearing a Belt driveway means getting the blade under that packed layer, not just skimming the loose top, so the ground underneath doesn't turn to ice by afternoon. Sidewalks along Main get shoveled clean so the short walk between storefronts stays easy footing even after a hard freeze. It's a small-town route, corner to corner, finished early enough that Belt looks like itself again by the time the sun clears the butte.
