Get down close to a Laurel lawn and it is a whole small country — centipede running its runners sideways, St. Augustine muscling toward the sun, Bermuda knitting tight where the mower keeps it honest. Grasscape works at that scale: mowing at the right height for the grass underfoot, edging, trimming, fertilization and weed control, and aeration when the clay packs down hard. Cut a yard on a straight bearing and the blades lie over in bands you can read from the porch. That striping is less decoration than evidence. In the Pine Belt, where turf grows hard for most of the year, the difference between mowed and kept shows up fast.
