Jeffery's lawn service

About Jeffery's lawn service

A Saturday morning in June on a side street off Byhalia Road: screen doors open, cicadas warming up in the pin oaks, one mower working steadily down the block. Jeffery's lawn service keeps it plain, cutting at the height that carries grass through north Mississippi heat, trimming around every post and meter lid, edging the walk, blowing the drive clear. Small yards and big ones get the same slow walk-around at the end, because that is where the misses hide. By ten the sun is over the rooflines and the finished lawns down the street all read the same. Ordinary work, and it is what makes a whole street look cared for.
