Bolton wakes slow, with dew standing on the Bermuda and a freight horn carrying up from the old rail line that splits the town. Green Keepers works these Hinds County yards between the Big Black River bottoms and the loess hills, where soybean and cotton ground runs right up to the fence line and the grass pushes hard from March clear into October. Mowing, edging, trimming, seasonal cleanup — plain work, carried until a yard shows a crisp line at the drive and a clean shoulder out along the road. Summer arrives as thunderheads stacking over the fields by mid-afternoon, so the sky gets read and the cut gets finished before the rain walks in. The last pass is the good part: the stripes holding, the ditch line trimmed, the whole place reading as cared-for from the highway. Yards are kept this way in Bolton and out toward Edwards, Raymond, Bovina and Clinton.
